A CFU for the Bellbrook Aboriginal Mission

During celebrations for NAIDOC Day this year, the NSW Rural Fire Service presented the Bellbrook Aboriginal mission with brand new equipment for a Community Fire Unit (CFU).
The CFU includes a portable water pump, hoses, hydrant attachments and torches that will allow trained volunteers to promptly work on fires before the RFS Bellbrook crew arrive.

Bellbrook’s CFU is one of 34 units, funded by a State Government grant, that have been presented to indigenous communities in NSW, to help communities become more self-sufficient in the event of a fire.

NSW RFS Senior Project Officer Bushfire Resilience for Aboriginal Communities David Curry said “We want to get the community more involved in fire resilience, attend RFS meetings and talk about any fears or problems that might need action.

“The Lower North Coast are having a good win with the Bellbrook community as engagement and participation is at an all time high. Great work by Vicky Kinna and Wayne Leader.”
