What's in the campaign?
As a three year campaign, this year’s advertising uses the same advertisements as last year, with a few tweaks.
This year’s campaign will point people to a new Bush Fire Survival Plan smartphone and tablet app. The app follows the paper based version of the Plan, walking people through the key decisions around bush fire preparation. The Plan does not replace the paper version, and is available on Apple and Android devices.
This year’s campaign also features a TV integration package with the Nine Network, so expect to see the NSW RFS message being displayed during the Today Show, Mornings, A Current Affair and during this year’s summer of cricket.
Newspaper advertising
The print campaign has commenced with a series of ‘wrap-around’ features in News Limited community newspapers. These features include information on the seasonal outlook and a graphic on how to prepare your property for bush fire.
Further features will appear in the same newspapers week commencing 10 November. These will include editorial content, featuring testimonial content from people who have experienced bush fires.
Print advertising will also appear in suburban and regional newspapers.
Indigenous press this year includes the Koori Mail and National Indigenous Times. Advertising will also appear in a number of Community Language newspapers.
Television Advertising
More than 2,000 paid TV spots have been booked for this year’s campaign in key timeslots.
TV advertising is now live on all commercial networks in the Sydney, Northern NSW, Southern NSW and Albury markets. Advertising will take place in two / three week ‘bursts’ until the end of February.
Radio Advertising
Radio advertisements have commenced on commercial and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse radio stations. ‘Live reads’ featuring preparation information or interviews with NSW RFS personnel will also air.
Outdoor Advertising
Petrol pump advertising this year includes 34 sites across NSW. This year, Pump TV advertising (using small TV screens installed in the petrol pumps) will be used at 12 sites.
60 billboard locations will feature NSW RFS advertising this year.
Online Advertising
This year there is a big focus on online advertising, linking to the Bush Fire Survival Plan app. Ads will be seen on Google, Fairfax, Yahoo and NineMSN channels this year.
YouTube and Facebook advertising will also drive people to download the Plan.
